Hubby wanted to have some sesame lotus mooncakes so I decided to make  a batch of Charcoal Sesame Snowskin Mooncakes. 

Charcoal Chocolate Chip Cheese Bun

My small bottle of bamboo charcoal powder from Phoon Huat was sitting in my counter and since we are running out of bread for breakfast, I decided to bake a batch of black beauty buns!

I did just that and baked a batch of pull-apart charcoal buns with chocolate chips and cream cheese added. It's soft, moist and yummy!!

I've been making charcoal buns with kaya after making Black Beauty Chocolate Chip Bun here. I've been asked if the recipe needs to be tweaked. The answer is no. I used the same bread recipe and wrapped kaya in the buns.

I was so excited when I saw Phoon Huat finally offering bamboo charcoal powder in smaller packaging recently. Activated charcoal has been known for its ability to remove toxins from your body. Charcoal is tasteless and odorless and bamboo charcoal has been commonly used as an ingredient in many bakes nowadays. I bought a bottle knowing exactly that I will want to make some black beauty breads and buns out of it! :)
