Smoothie is a nutritious and refreshing beverage where fruits are used as the base and blended together. It is not only a great, refreshing and nutritious beverage on its own, but also a fabulous and convenient meal replacement.
Smoothies are very easy and quick to make. You can just a few basic ingredients to blend a simple smoothie, or add in other food (eg. other fruits, nuts, vegetables, etc) to concort a blend that suits your palette. The combinations are limitless!
I normally use fresh or frozen fruit to make up the base of my smoothie, but you can also use canned fruit as well. Some of the fruits I use include:
- Blueberries, strawberries, raspberries, bananas, apple, kiwis, mangoes, avocados and canned peaches
If you are using fruits that has higher liquid content like watermelon, pineapple and oranges, the smoothie will be more watery and you may want to thicken it up with a thickener (eg protein powder).
Other than fruits as the base of the smoothie, you will need to add liquid for blend them together. The usual liquid I use include:
- Milk, soya milk, yogurt, greek yogurt and ice cream
Whether to add any sweetener (eg honey, sugar, etc) will depend on the type of fruits I'm using and how sweet I want my smoothie to be. Before giving all the ingredients a good blitz in the blender, you may also want to add some ice cubes. However, you can give this a miss or use frozen fruits as well.
It's really easy. You literally mix and match your ingredients, put them all in the blender, give it a good blitz, and a super refreshing smoothie is on the way!!
