Pumpkin Muah Chee (南瓜麻糍)


Whenever I crave for my favourite local snack Muah Chee, I will be able to have my craving satisfied within minutes. 


In support of this month's LTU (Pumpkin) and My Treasured Recipe (Taste of Autumn), I'm adding pumpkin to make Pumpkin Muah Chee. I have used the recipe from 最爱的 。。, but instead of using the steaming method, I used my usual microwaved method to make this snack, all under 10 minutes!



Pumpkin Muah Chee (南瓜麻糍)
Translated and adapted from 最爱的。。。
(my notes and modification red below)

Ingredients:
120g glutinous rice flour
50g pumpkin, steamed and mashed
180g water (reduced to 160g as the mashed pumpkin is quite moist after steaming)
1 tbspn peanut oil

For the coating
100g grounded peanut
50g caster sugar
1 tbspn white sesame seed, toasted

Method:
(I didn't use this Steaming version)
1. Mix the ingredients for coating in a big plate and set aside.
2. Oil the pan.
3. Bring water in steamer to boil.
4. In a bowl, mix mashed pumpkin, oil and water well.
5. Add in glutinous rice flour and stir to mix well. Strain mixture over a sieve.
6. Pour the sieved mixture into the prepared pan. Steam at medium heat for 30 minutes.
7. Transfer the cooked pumpkin muah chee onto the plate of peanut-sugar mixture.
8. Cut into tiny pieces using a kitchen scissor.
9. Coat well and serve immediately.

I wanted quick and easy and so I chose to do the microwaved version I always use:
Microwaved Version  
1. Mix the ingredients for coating in a big plate and set aside.
2. Mix glutinous rice flour, oil, water and mashed pumpkin in a covered Pyrex or any microwavable container and microwave on high for 7 mins. 



3. Transfer the cooked pumpkin muah chee onto the plate of peanut-sugar mixture.


4. Cut into tiny pieces using a kitchen scissor.


5. Coat well and serve immediately.

  2. Haven't tried mua chee with pumpkin. I know of pandan mua chee and the plain one. Thanks for sharing. Will definitely try this when I'm making mua chee again.

  3. I have not taken muah chee for quite sometime as I find that those stall-bought type are rather oily and grounded peanut not so fragrant. Your bowl of pumpkin muah chee surely "shiok" coated with lots of grounded peanuts and toasted sesame seeds ^-^
